Mom and I on a Mission!!

My mother and I are officially on a "better ourselves" mission! Eating healthy, exercising, getting skinny, all that jazz. We are giving ourselves a year, til Mom's next birthday, although my goal is February. I need to look good for Matt's birthday cruise!

I realize this will take hard work and commitment.

I want to look like I did back when these pictures were taken:

So from here on out, I gotta eat right, exercise daily, and drink less.

This is important advice to remember though:

Everything's Changing

We all hear and often say that change is a good thing.

Just last week I said that I love it and welcome it.

I LIED.

Certain changes, like moving to a new place, or getting a new job, can be exciting and thrilling. Others like having to buy smaller jeans, or getting a raise at work, are more than welcome. However the most prominent change, loss, is absolutely terrible. I don't mean just death, I mean loss of relationships, friendships, or loss of consistency, changes in patterns that make us feel uneasy. These forms of change are down right tear jerking. I have found myself experiencing much of this form of change recently, and frankly, it's time for it to stop.

1.
A little over a year ago I lost a best friend whom I though I was going to grow old with. We talked daily and made time for each other as much as possible, yet for some reason, she up and decided she was "over it." Then many of my friends graduated college, and we simply lost connection. And further, I lost connection with people whom I'd only just begun to bond with.

I realize that we are all going in our own paths in this world, and that sometimes certain changes are necessary. I also realize that what happens to us, socially, in college, will not always be detrimental to our future. However, at present, it hurts.

2.
I am not just speaking of myself either. I see changes in other people's lives. I've cried over break ups that were not my own, and the friend involved have no idea. I've cried for the pain others feel in their relationships (with friends and significant others) during disputes. I feel as though if things can't work out for the people I care about, then they will certainly never work out for me. I should not internalize these changes the way I do, yet it happens.

I hate to see others in pain. I hate to sit back and watch these situations knowing I can do nothing about it. I hate that I cannot control everything and keep everyone I love happy. I really hate it.

3. I'm getting old. I'm graduating college within the next year. I'll soon be leaving behind the comforts of home and joining the military. I put on a brave face, which is not at all an act, but inside I can't help but anticipate the pain coming. I am a family girl. I have no idea how I am going to be able to handle being away from home for so long. The adventurer on me is excited about the next stage of my life, but I do have smaller, lesser known, personality that clings to my home life. I am scared to death of what is coming.

I have been wanting to get this off my chest for some time, and now I have. So, thanks for reading, and goodnight!

Boyfriend Better Be's....

So at lunch today my friends decided that I needed to make a list of requirements for my future boyfriend (my friends seem to think I need one), so here they are:

What they say:
1- He has to be single (well yeah, that's a given)
2- He has to be chivalrous
3- He has to pay for things
4- He has to be social. Willing to hang with my friends, but also have his own social life.
5- He also can't get jealous when I'm hanging out with my friends without him.
6- He has to be driven. Looking to do something more in life, seeking an education, etc..

Plus my preferences:
I like musicians, adventurous, and a Christian

kind of a rant..

My life has changed a lot recently. I've discovered many new things about myself, and about the people in my life.

Many of my so called friends turned out to not be such. This I am not having many issues with because once I graduate, I'm done. I'm out of here and away from all those people who don't really matter.

Speaking of getting out, I'ved altered my future plans slightly. Instead of going straight to the Navy, I've decided that I want to pack up and move somewhere new for a while. It will be a beach for sure. If it's not St. Simons, it will be California. One of the Sans maybe. IDK. I just wanna be somewhere new, meet non college kids, and experience a different lifestyle than this one.

I'm so ready to graduate. I hate college. Ok, I hate college in the academic sense. I love college life and the freedoms I do have. I also hate the people. Outside of the few people I know are there for me and that I can trust, the people in this town don't do much for me. The guys are all jerks or horn dogs (often actually both), and the girls are sluts or liars (again, often both). I wanna meet REAL people, not people who play games and care only about themselves.

Okay, well I guess I'm done ranting for now...

RIP Elizabeth Taylor

She has this one quote that I completely identify with:

"I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I'm not afraid to look behind them."

I am a person who is constantly on the go. I never know where I'm gonna be. Nor does my family, haha. They've called me to check in and I've told them I'm on the beach, in the mountains, or on a road trip. It's quite entertaining.
I'm a person who won't settle down anytime soon. I'm definitely a free spirit, independent, and won't quite until I've seen all I can!

In closing, I have another tribute to the famous lady:
I fell off my pink cloud with a thud.
You lived a good life Elizabeth Taylor, may you rest in peace, diamonds and all!

Thoughts from SSI

So Monday (when I attempted to mobile blog this) I was sitting on a patio of a restaurant drinking endless Mimosas, here's the experience I had (while reading Eat.Pray.Love)

"This day I wonderful and fantastic in every way. Then this girl Sita next me, she is maybe 6 or 7. Everything she has said makes me smile. She asked if they had applesauce- hey a kid who knows what she wants. She looked to her sister (maybe a year age difference, if that) and says I can't wait to meet baby Jesus in heaven! The sweetest most sincere thing I have heard in a long time. I went back to riding and heard her comment -again, to her sister- you should just hug everybody. Tue mind of a child is an amazing thing. This girl is smarter than many of my college professors! I could sit and listen to her talk all day- she was just saying how she know what the word absent means. I wish the world thought the way this child did. So many people would be much happier!"

Magnolia Ball, Savannah 2011

This past weekend was my sorority (Xi Delta) formal, the annual Magnolia Ball. This year we went to Savannah, and formal was at the Hyatt Regency, ON the river!! It was so beautiful.

My car load and I left Friday around 4. We drove straight to The Lady & Sons restaurant (Paula Deen's place) where we had dinner with the rest of the formal attendees. Then me, my date- Travis, and my friends Joey and Kelly went out on River Street. There you are allowed to walk around with an open container. So our Wet Willys frozen concoctions went with us as we explored. We eventually found a bar called Peg Let Pete's, where there was karaoke! Travis rocked out the bar singing Bon Jovi's Dead or Alive.  It was a very good time. The bar patrons were very diverse: dreadheads, fratties, & old drunk men. But it was fun nonetheless.

We left downtown and went to Tybee Island where our group had rented a beach house. It was soo pretty! Pale yellow on the outside and lots of bright colors inside. The house I swear was a labyrinth though, I'm still sure there were rooms in there we never found. There were porches EVERYWHERE! In fact I spent Friday night drinking wine on one of the porches with a few folks. It was wonderful.

Saturday I woke up and went running on the beach. It felt amazing. There was a pier down a ways from our house so I ran to it. I love walking on piers. It's not the same as walking on the beach, but it's pretty amazing. There's something about walking out over the water that really delights me.

After my run I returned the house to prepare for tanning on the beach. My girls and I took pictures then I went for a walk. There's nothing more satisfying to me than simply walking down the beach. I love watching the kids play in the surf and the sand. I love seeing the boys throw footballs and frisbees, while the girls tan and watch. I also love to simply stand at the water's edge with the water running over my feet. It's amazing looking out at the ocean knowing how big of a world is out there beyond the horizon.

(Kelly, Stephanie, LeeAnne, Grace, Me, Amanda W)

After beaching for a few hours Kelly, Joey, and I rode back over to River Street to meet up with our group for lunch at the River House. Their menu was not very impressive, but my blackened tilapia sandwich was rather incredible.

After lunch came time to get ready for the actual formal event. In 2 hours, 21 people managed to go from casual or dressy. Impressive considering the amount of showers and things that took place. All the girls were rather jealous the 6 guys chilled outside with beer while we fretted over makeup, zippers, and hair. But in the end everyone looked GORGEOUS!

Having Formal at the Hyatt was amazing. Our room was raised over the River. People on the passing and docked boats were watching us all night. We danced and had an open bar til 11pm. Here's some pics.

( Me and Julia showing off our backs)

Me, Travis, Kate, Joey, Grace and Ashely doing the Macarena
(that sexy guy in the red was my date)

all of us!

After Formal we went back to the house to continue the night. Some of us even made a stop at the beach (some in formal gowns still).

(Julia, LeeAnne, Amanda W, Christina, Grace, Me, Alesia)

As if the weekend couldn't get any better, on Sunday I went to St. Simons!! I love that island. Travis and I walked around and had some daiquiris at Mullet Bay and then my friend Bethany showed up! Joey and Kelly met up with us then we all went to the original Gnat's Landing for late lunch. Before going back to the car we took one more walk on the beach. I didn't wanna leave.

We left the island around 5:30pm, and I got home at 12:20 am. The drive home was long, we stopped 3 times, and we got caugh in traffic with 2 wrecks. I was so thankful to get home!

It was one amazing weekend with some truly incredible people. I'm so sad this was my last formal. This time next year I'll be exploring the world through a port hole!

There all just songs about me...

So, I've been at St. Mary's since Tuesday night (left only to sleep Tuesday pm, and work Wednesday pm). My grandfather had back surgery Tuesday morning and he's recovering here before starting a long path towards full recovery after his dismissal.

In my time here I've had a lot of time to think, about no one in thing in particular, just in general. So here's one product of my thoughts: A playlist of my life. In essence, these songs represent who I am. Do not take this too literally, so songs have an emotional value, while others fit me word to word. Feel free to ask which ones mean what.

1- Sorority Girl - Luke Bryan.
No, I'm not in a National sorority, but this song captures my experience in Athens quite well. Everything but the chorus, yeah that's me.

2- Question Mark - Taylor Swift (on youtube) Here's the Video/Lyrics
Think broad scale, not limited to one situation.

3- Gimme That Girl - Joe Nichols.
I am "that" girl. :)

4- My Kinda Crazy - Brantley Gilbert
When I have a guy, that's totally me!

5- You and Your Hand Tonight - Pink
Self explanatory.

6- Animal - Ke$sha
Totally my party song.

7- Hit Me Baby One More Time - Britney Spears
Mine  & Kelly's Song.

8- Outside - Staind
Mine & Travis' song.

9- Never Alone - Lady Antebellum
haha... only Scooby can appreciate the funny side of this.
but there's a more meaningful side, less romantic, more just loving.

10. Pour Some Sugar on Me - Def Leppard
my mom and I love this song. And I got to hear it LIVE!

11- Fallen Angel - Poison

12- Hot & Cold - Katy Perry

13- Angels Among Us - Alabama

14- When I Call on Jesus - Nicole C Mullen

15 - Bedrock - Young Money
My other party song.

16- Attitude - Pine Box Secrets

17- Uh Oh - Leading Edge

18 - Wide Open - Jason Aldean

19- Heart Like Mine - Miranda Lambert

These are my Confessions:

1- I'm not happy right now.

In life in general. I have a lot of changes that I wish I could zap into place.

I'm physcially unhappy with my body (currently working on these changes).
I'm financially concerned about many things.
I truly can't wait to be done with school so I can have a real job.
I'm not being the person I could be. That is all my fault of course.
I'm praying for guidance on how to accomplish what I want.
I'm feeling like I'm losing some of my friends. And that really hurts.

I feel lonely. I know I'm not alone, and I know who my real friends are. Maybe I'm just keeping part of myself locked inside and that's my issue. I try to bottle up my insecurities and not let them show, but maybe I should talk to someone about them.

2- Me and Jesus need to get closer.

I reflect on high school and laugh at myself for many of ways of thinking back then. But one thing I do wish hadn't change is my feelings on religion. Not feelings I actually, I still believe in everything I always have. I just need to be more steadfast in my beliefs. I need to get back into church.

3- I really need to care about school. But, I don't. I'm over it.

Words can't describe how ready I am to be done. I have no desire to step foot on the UGA campus ever again, unless it's football Saturday. I don't know why I hate it so much, but I just can't stand school.

Getting Skinny

So I worked out for 3 hours today. 2 hours at BodyPlex and another doing Yoga and balance exercises on my friend Kelly's Wii Fit. It felt GREAT! I haven't worked out in forever. I totally missed it.

But today was the first step on my path to slim down. I'm sick of being fat. :(

So along with waking up early and working out, I also plan to start keeping a food journal. Keeping track of what I eat everyday will help me cut back on the things I need to avoid. I'm also going to stop eating after 8:30.

Furthermore, I plan to cut back on things like the drunchies and all that. I'm done. I gotta be good.

Time to get skinny! :)

Snowpocalypse & Snowmageddon

Okay, I live in GA for a reason, it's supposed to be warm. Isn't that the beautiful thing about the South? I'm so confused. What happened to global warming? How is it that the Earth is supposedly heating up, yet we've had snow TWICE in the past month. And not our normal Southern snow, like epic snow (for us anyway).

This is just weird.

I mean, I love it. I get to miss my first day of school :)

But the roads are bad, and southerners freak out when there's even talk of snow or ice. So of course people are doing dumb things and going to be getting their selves hurt, along with hurting those public servicemen and women out there helping them. It's really frustrating. I'm praying for the safety of everyone tonight, but especially those who are out in this weather keeping the public safe.

It's not all their faults of course. This state is not properly equipped to deal with snow/ice/etc on the roads. You would think after the Spring Break fiasco last year, they would have prepared somewhat for the same sort of occurrence this year. Southerners can be so naive sometimes.

I am so glad that I came home tonight. I contemplated staying in Athens for the day, but chose to hang out with my parents. Obviously, a great decision. I hate that my little sister was unable to make it home, and I hope she'll remain safe in the mountains. I worry about the effects of this weather on the already unstable climate that occurs in mountainous areas.

But either way, I'm sitting in front of a fire place, looking at the snow outside the window. It's so much warmer here than in my apartment. :)

New Year, New Me

Welcome to 2011! I for one am very excited that 2010 is finally over, it was one of the worst years of my life. However, 2011 brings with it many exciting things: my college graduation, a new job (hopefully the Navy), my first trip across the Atlantic (London, Spain, Italy, France), and the beginnings of my new life as a "real person."

Resolutions

With all these exciting changes, I need to make some betterment changes in my life:

1- I'm dying to lose some weight. I used to be filled with confidence in myself, and I used to be in such great shape. This year, that's going to happen again.. hopefully by spring break. haha.

2- While getting in shape is the main goal, but most importantly, I wanna start running. I really want to build my stamina and endurance up.

3- I need to focus more in school. I tend to put school on the back burner, and never care all that much about grades and things. With this semester, I still don't totally care too much (as I'm taking all electives), I plan to really concentrate on my classes. I'm taking 6 on campus, and 2 online. So, I have my work cut out for me.

4- As my college career comes to a close. I want to focus on really building up the relationships that I want to take with me after I leave the Classic City.  Some of my friendships I know will be left behind, but I want to concentrate on those that I know are my real friends.
