Magnolia Ball, Savannah 2011
This past weekend was my sorority (Xi Delta) formal, the annual Magnolia Ball. This year we went to Savannah, and formal was at the Hyatt Regency, ON the river!! It was so beautiful.
My car load and I left Friday around 4. We drove straight to The Lady & Sons restaurant (Paula Deen's place) where we had dinner with the rest of the formal attendees. Then me, my date- Travis, and my friends Joey and Kelly went out on River Street. There you are allowed to walk around with an open container. So our Wet Willys frozen concoctions went with us as we explored. We eventually found a bar called Peg Let Pete's, where there was karaoke! Travis rocked out the bar singing Bon Jovi's Dead or Alive. It was a very good time. The bar patrons were very diverse: dreadheads, fratties, & old drunk men. But it was fun nonetheless.
We left downtown and went to Tybee Island where our group had rented a beach house. It was soo pretty! Pale yellow on the outside and lots of bright colors inside. The house I swear was a labyrinth though, I'm still sure there were rooms in there we never found. There were porches EVERYWHERE! In fact I spent Friday night drinking wine on one of the porches with a few folks. It was wonderful.
Saturday I woke up and went running on the beach. It felt amazing. There was a pier down a ways from our house so I ran to it. I love walking on piers. It's not the same as walking on the beach, but it's pretty amazing. There's something about walking out over the water that really delights me.
After my run I returned the house to prepare for tanning on the beach. My girls and I took pictures then I went for a walk. There's nothing more satisfying to me than simply walking down the beach. I love watching the kids play in the surf and the sand. I love seeing the boys throw footballs and frisbees, while the girls tan and watch. I also love to simply stand at the water's edge with the water running over my feet. It's amazing looking out at the ocean knowing how big of a world is out there beyond the horizon.
After beaching for a few hours Kelly, Joey, and I rode back over to River Street to meet up with our group for lunch at the River House. Their menu was not very impressive, but my blackened tilapia sandwich was rather incredible.
After lunch came time to get ready for the actual formal event. In 2 hours, 21 people managed to go from casual or dressy. Impressive considering the amount of showers and things that took place. All the girls were rather jealous the 6 guys chilled outside with beer while we fretted over makeup, zippers, and hair. But in the end everyone looked GORGEOUS!
Having Formal at the Hyatt was amazing. Our room was raised over the River. People on the passing and docked boats were watching us all night. We danced and had an open bar til 11pm. Here's some pics.
We left the island around 5:30pm, and I got home at 12:20 am. The drive home was long, we stopped 3 times, and we got caugh in traffic with 2 wrecks. I was so thankful to get home!
It was one amazing weekend with some truly incredible people. I'm so sad this was my last formal. This time next year I'll be exploring the world through a port hole!

After Formal we went back to the house to continue the night. Some of us even made a stop at the beach (some in formal gowns still).

As if the weekend couldn't get any better, on Sunday I went to St. Simons!! I love that island. Travis and I walked around and had some daiquiris at Mullet Bay and then my friend Bethany showed up! Joey and Kelly met up with us then we all went to the original Gnat's Landing for late lunch. Before going back to the car we took one more walk on the beach. I didn't wanna leave.

There all just songs about me...
So, I've been at St. Mary's since Tuesday night (left only to sleep Tuesday pm, and work Wednesday pm). My grandfather had back surgery Tuesday morning and he's recovering here before starting a long path towards full recovery after his dismissal.
In my time here I've had a lot of time to think, about no one in thing in particular, just in general. So here's one product of my thoughts: A playlist of my life. In essence, these songs represent who I am. Do not take this too literally, so songs have an emotional value, while others fit me word to word. Feel free to ask which ones mean what.
1- Sorority Girl - Luke Bryan.
No, I'm not in a National sorority, but this song captures my experience in Athens quite well. Everything but the chorus, yeah that's me.
2- Question Mark - Taylor Swift (on youtube) Here's the Video/Lyrics
Think broad scale, not limited to one situation.
3- Gimme That Girl - Joe Nichols.
I am "that" girl. :)
4- My Kinda Crazy - Brantley Gilbert
When I have a guy, that's totally me!
5- You and Your Hand Tonight - Pink
Self explanatory.
6- Animal - Ke$sha
Totally my party song.
7- Hit Me Baby One More Time - Britney Spears
Mine & Kelly's Song.
8- Outside - Staind
Mine & Travis' song.
9- Never Alone - Lady Antebellum
haha... only Scooby can appreciate the funny side of this.
but there's a more meaningful side, less romantic, more just loving.
10. Pour Some Sugar on Me - Def Leppard
my mom and I love this song. And I got to hear it LIVE!
11- Fallen Angel - Poison
12- Hot & Cold - Katy Perry
13- Angels Among Us - Alabama
14- When I Call on Jesus - Nicole C Mullen
15 - Bedrock - Young Money
My other party song.
16- Attitude - Pine Box Secrets
17- Uh Oh - Leading Edge
18 - Wide Open - Jason Aldean
19- Heart Like Mine - Miranda Lambert
